Acknowledged as a scholar in numismatics for his expertise in the coinage of North East and Eastern India, Shanker Kumar Bose has written and published several books and innumerable research articles. A guest faculty of the Centre for Archaeological Studies and Training, Kolkata, Bose is at present also the Managing Trustee of the Institute of Northeast India Studies. He was awarded the prestigious Akbar Medal by the Numismatic Society of India in December, 2011 for his contribution to numismatic literature. He was also honoured as the General President of the Society during its annual session in 2013.
Bose was born in Dhubri (Assam), India.

Our upcoming book on numismatics is ‘The Early Coinage of Bengal (2nd century BC to 10th century AD)’.
Several articles and books have been published on early Bengal coinage but in a piecemeal manner, covering a small periods and geographical areas. This is probably the first book that has covered all the economical growth centres of ancient Bengal chronologically and in a scientific manner. The book also describes the people, their culture, art objects like terracottas, beads and cowries. The authors have tried to indicate areas of historical research where the numismatic evidence can shed fresh light and provide helpful material to historians to aid research.
The book is profusely illustrated with both coloured & B/W photos. The catalogue contains more than 45 plates. The book has been printed on quality art paper with hard board cloth binding.
